James Harden is set to join the Cleveland Cavaliers from the Los Angeles Clippers in a major trade that sends Darius Garland in the opposite direction.
Harden, 36, is a former MVP and the NBA’s ninth all-time leading scorer, but he has yet to win a championship.
The veteran guard told ESPN that the move to the Eastern Conference was fueled by his desire for a ring, stating, “I think we have a bit better chance.”
The deal sees the Clippers receive 26-year-old Garland, who is averaging 18 points this season, along with a second-round draft pick.
The trade remains subject to medicals, potentially setting up a dramatic reunion when the Clippers host the Cavaliers this Wednesday.
