Kakira Rugby Football Club will make their Uganda Rugby Premiership debut on February 7 at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds, facing Platinum Credit Heathens RFC as the new league season begins.
The Simbas earned promotion through the Eastern Regional Championship and playoffs, sealing qualification with a notable victory over KIU Crows.
Formed about 18 months ago, Kakira RFC has quickly built a structured setup that includes the senior men’s Simbas, the women’s Lioness side, and a development pathway involving more than 400 boys and girls from nearby schools.
The club now joins the 12 team top flight as one of three Eastern region representatives alongside Jinja Hippos and Walukuba Barbarians.
Head coach Saidi Atibu welcomed the milestone and highlighted the effort behind the promotion.
“Qualification to the Premiership is a reward for the hard work and sacrifice put in by everyone at the club, those at the forefront and those behind the scenes. As a Coach, I’m excited to introduce fresh creativity into the game for Uganda and push the team forward with a clear, progressive style of play.”
The Premiership season officially starts this weekend, with Kakira Simbas entering the competition aiming to establish themselves quickly in Uganda’s top tier rugby competition.
