Uganda’s Uganda U-20 Women’s National Team head into a decisive FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifying clash against Zambia U-20 Women’s National Team tomorrow at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, with a place in the next round at stake. The tie remains finely balanced after a 1-1 first leg draw in Kampala.
Head coach Sheryl Botes has named a 20-player travelling squad as Uganda chase qualification for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. The team completed final preparations at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba before departure under the arrangements of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations, travelling via Ethiopian Airlines.
Botes believes her side can adapt to expected weather conditions in Ndola and still compete strongly. “I believe we have the ability to do more damage in Zambia. I have been told it has been raining every day, so we will assess the situation on arrival. We will definitely train in the rain a day before the match so the girls can get used to the conditions. I am hopeful and I believe we can make an impact in Zambia.”
Second assistant captain Lillian Nakiirya says motivation remains high ahead of the crucial encounter. “We have completed our last training session here at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba, as we prepare to depart for Zambia tonight. We are ready to play this game because it is vital for keeping our World Cup hopes alive.”
The aggregate winner will progress to the final qualification round to face either South Africa or Ghana.
