The Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda has intensified safety preparations ahead of the 2026 motorsport season and the Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally by conducting a terrorism awareness refresher course for rally marshals and officials.
The training took place on February 16, 2026 in Ndeeba, where more than 100 marshals and safety personnel attended a one day session focused on strengthening event security and public safety.
The exercise was facilitated jointly by FMU officials and the Uganda Police, with expert guidance from Hussein Nsobya, Director of the Counter Terrorism Unit. He warned participants that any individual or location could become a potential target and urged heightened vigilance, early deployment planning, punctuality at assigned posts, and proactive identification of risks.
He also advised the federation to designate specific zones for officials, VIPs and spectators to improve security coordination. Nsobya told trainees, “Safety starts with you,” urging them to remain alert and promptly report suspicious activity.
Former FMU deputy president for technical rallying and clerk of course for the Pearl Rally, Kisitu Mayanja, stressed strict adherence to the sport’s code of conduct and accountability among officials.
FMU vice president administration Hamid Gombe, who oversees safety and medical commissions, also participated in the training.
FMU medical delegate Derrick Okech highlighted the importance of timely medical checks for competitors and riders as part of broader safety preparedness.
The federation says the training reflects its commitment to maintaining safe rally environments for competitors, officials, and spectators as preparations intensify for the Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally and other events on the 2026 calendar.
