World number two Jannik Sinner made a dominant return to the court on Monday, defeating Tomas Machac 6-1 6-4 at the Qatar Open.
In his first match since his Australian Open semi-final exit, the Italian took just 27 minutes to claim the opening set before sealing the straight-sets victory.
Following the win, Sinner was interviewed on-court by former England defender Rio Ferdinand.
The victory sets up a last-16 clash against Australia’s Alexei Popyrin, who advanced after a 6-0 6-2 win over local wild card Mubarak Shannan Zayid.

• Daniil Medvedev progressed with a 6-4 6-2 win over Juncheng Shang.
