Boxing legend Floyd “Money” Mayweather has officially announced his return to professional boxing, ending a nine-year retirement.
The 48-year-old, who turns 49 this week, confirmed he will return to the pro ranks following a high-profile exhibition bout against former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson this spring.
Mayweather has not fought professionally since his 10th-round TKO victory over Conor McGregor in 2017, which moved his undefeated record to 50-0.
“I still have what it takes to set more records,” Mayweather said in a statement. “No one will generate a bigger gate, have a larger global broadcast audience and generate more money.”
While an opponent and date for the professional return have yet to be named, the move marks Mayweather’s fourth comeback.
Since 2017, the five-weight world champion has stayed active through exhibition matches, most recently facing John Gotti III in 2024.
Despite his age, the sport’s biggest financial draw insists he is ready to reclaim the spotlight and extend his historic legacy.
