Spiro Uganda has partnered with the Uganda Boda Boda Union to launch a nationwide football league for riders, in a move aimed at strengthening collaboration and building community ties across the country.
The Riders Football League was unveiled at Old Kampala Senior Secondary School and will run over several match days, offering a structured and competitive platform for boda boda riders. Organisers say the initiative is designed to promote sportsmanship while also connecting participants to sustainable electric mobility solutions in Uganda.
Bruce Mucunguzi, Deputy Country Head at Spiro Uganda, said the championship is part of a broader effort to deepen engagement with riders.
“We introduced this boda boda union championship to strengthen our partnership with riders. Sports and games are powerful tools for connection and community building,” Mucunguzi told NBS Sport during the launch.
Sixteen teams took part in an exhibition match to mark the start of the competition, setting the tone for what stakeholders described as a long term initiative for the boda boda fraternity. The event drew a large turnout of riders, many of whom welcomed the league as an opportunity to build teamwork, nurture talent and connect beyond their daily work on the roads.
Organisers say the inaugural edition signals the start of wider collaboration between Spiro and the boda boda community, with sport positioned as a tool for empowerment, talent development and community growth.
