FUFA Big League leaders Blacks Power saw their advantage trimmed to a single point after a 1-0 defeat to Young Elephants Academy on Sunday, as Ntugasaze FC surged into contention with a dominant win.
Blacks Power were beaten in Nwoya by an unfortunate own goal, their third loss in 16 matches this season. The result leaves them top on 29 points but with their once healthy cushion now almost gone.
Ntugasaze took full advantage. They dismantled Nebbi Central 4-1 at Kiira Road Arena in one of the standout performances of Matchday 16. Abdallah Kawanguzi, James Jarieko, Godfrey Kakooza and Brian Omirambe were all on target in a sharp attacking display that underlined their promotion credentials. The victory moves them to 28 points, just one behind the leaders.
Kigezi Homeboyz missed the chance to keep pace after being held to a 1-1 draw by Kaaro Karungi. The dropped points leave them with ground to recover as the race tightens.
Elsewhere, Kataka secured a 2-0 home win over Bunyaruguru United in Mbale, while Soltilo Bright Stars edged CATDA 1-0 at Bugolobi Coffee Grounds. Paidha Black Angels also claimed a narrow 1-0 victory against Mbale Heroes to stay within touching distance of the leading pack.
At Nakivubo, Wakiso Giants needed a decisive strike from Davies Kakande to overcome Kiyinda Boys 1-0. Iganga United added to the weekend drama with a 2-1 win over Onduparaka.
Matchday 16 has reshaped the promotion conversation. With just one point separating the top two sides, the second round promises a tense run in as clubs battle for a place in next season’s top flight.
