Manchester United’s pursuit of a Champions League return is gathering pace, driven by the clinical form of Benjamin Sesko and the “calmness” of young goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
Following a gritty 1-0 win at Everton, United sit three points clear of Chelsea and Liverpool in fourth place.
The victory extends their unbeaten Premier League run to 10 games, their best streak since 2021.
Super-sub Benjamin Sesko continues to be the difference-maker. His 71st-minute winner, a 70-yard sprint capped by a “ruthless” finish, was his sixth goal in seven games.
Despite not yet starting under head coach Michael Carrick, Sesko remains focused: “Whether it’s five minutes or 90, it’s about showing I can deliver.”
At the other end, 23-year-old Senne Lammens drew comparisons to Edwin van der Sar after a string of vital saves.
“He takes the chaos away,” Carrick said of the Belgian, who was hailed as the game’s best player by Everton boss David Moyes.
Initially targeting the Europa League, United’s surge under Carrick has shifted the internal goal to the top four.
With no European distractions compared to rivals Aston Villa and Chelsea, Jamie Carragher believes a return to Europe’s elite is now almost certain: “I can’t see them not making it.”
