KCCA FC travel to Butema on Monday evening with one clear objective: secure a vital victory over Buhimba United Saints at Royal Park and tighten their grip on the Uganda Premier League title race.
The Kasasiro Boys, buoyed by successive wins against BUL FC and Mbarara City FC in the League and Uganda Cup, respectively, head into this clash brimming with renewed confidence. Those cup triumphs snapped a brief three-game winless run, restoring the belief that has powered KCCA throughout the season.
Currently trailing league leaders Vipers SC by five points, KCCA know a victory in Butema could dramatically shrink the gap to just two points, sending a strong statement in the title chase.
Reflecting on the upcoming match, co-head coach Jackson Nelly Magera acknowledged the challenge that awaits. “In the reverse fixture, we struggled to break them down and we don’t expect it to be easier again,” he said to the club media.
“But maybe, playing in their own backyard will prompt a change of tactics as they also want to get points,” he added.
Magera emphasized the importance of a strong start, underlining his tactical mindset: “The first 10-15 minutes will determine our approach but the goal is to go there and win with a good performance.”
Buhimba United Saints, currently 14th on the table with 15 points, will face Monday’s match without head coach Robert Mukasa, who was handed a red card in their previous encounter.
Both teams may also look to shake things up with recent signings. KCCA could deploy new striker Kennedy Muserero to bolster their attack, while Buhimba might give chances to Musa Ssali and Bageya to strengthen their squad.
Elsewhere in the Uganda Premier League, SC Villa will undertake a long trip to Yumbe to face bottom-placed Calvary FC as the weekend’s fixtures continue to shape the race at both ends of the table.
