West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo has banned Adama Traore from lifting weights, claiming the winger already “carries enough weight.”
Despite Traore’s long-standing claims that his physique is purely genetic, teammate Crysencio Summerville recently shared a video of the 30-year-old bench-pressing 145kg at the club’s training ground.
Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s clash against Fulham, Nuno insisted the Spaniard must swap the power rack for “prevention work” to maintain his agility. “It’s incredible, it’s genetics,” Nuno said. “[But] I’ve told him to stay out of the gym. He should avoid it.”
Traore, who joined from Fulham in January for £2m, has been limited to four substitute appearances in the league so far.
However, Nuno, who previously coached Traore at Wolves—remains confident the “unique” winger will be a key weapon in West Ham’s fight for Premier League survival.
