Vipers SC will be determined to get their Uganda Premier League campaign back on track when they host Lugazi FC at St. Mary’s Stadium Kitende, with the title race beginning to tighten around the reigning champions.
The Venoms have recently seen their dominance at the summit wobble after dropping points in consecutive matches, results that have significantly trimmed their lead to only two points. Their latest slip came on home turf against NEC FC, a stalemate that further heightened the sense of urgency around the defending champions.
With the chasing pack gaining ground, a victory in front of their home supporters has become increasingly important for Vipers as they aim to restore confidence and reassert control of the title race.
The pressure could intensify even before kickoff in Kitende. Kitara FC are scheduled to face Entebbe UPPC earlier in the day, and a win for Kitara would temporarily lift them above Vipers at the top of the standings.
Such a scenario would only add more significance to the evening clash under the floodlights.
When the two teams met earlier this season in Najjembe, Vipers narrowly edged the contest with a 2-1 victory. Goals from Yunus Sentamu and Usama Arafat proved decisive for the Venoms, while Ashraf Mulindi found the net for Lugazi in reply.
Despite the earlier defeat, Lugazi arrive at Kitende with growing belief and improved momentum. The side nicknamed “The Leaders” recently booked their place in the next round of the Stanbic Uganda Cup after overcoming Police FC, a triumph that followed a league victory over UPDF FC.
Those back-to-back successes have lifted Lugazi to 10th place on the league table with 18 points, providing renewed confidence as they prepare for one of their toughest assignments of the season.
Elsewhere on Tuesday, BUL FC will travel to the Kiira Road ground to face Police FC, while NEC FC host UPDF FC at MTN Omondi Stadium.
