Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has been handed a reduced 15-month suspended sentence following a retrial in Syros.
The 32-year-old was originally sentenced to 21 months in 2020 following an incident in Mykonos.
The retrial—delayed four times since 2023—concluded that Maguire was guilty of non-serious assault, resisting arrest, and attempted bribery.
The reduced sentence reflects the lower severity of the charges compared to the original trial.
Maguire denies all wrongdoing and plans to appeal to the Supreme Court to clear his name. Under Greek law, his initial 2020 conviction was nullified upon appeal, leading to this full reassessment of the facts.
Despite the verdict and a recent bout of illness, Maguire remains in the squad for tonight’s Premier League match against Newcastle United.
The case has now lasted nearly six years, and while the sentence is reduced, Maguire’s legal team remains committed to a full acquittal before the statute of limitations expires in August 2028.
