Orlando Pirates are ten games away from ending a 12-year drought, but history is breathing down their necks.
Currently leading the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) with 48 points, the Buccaneers hold a narrow three-point lead over Mamelodi Sundowns (45 points).
While Pirates have a crucial game in hand, the “Ghost” of seasons past looms large; the club famously bottled late-season leads in both 2022 and 2023.
Head coach Roscoe Krieling, who previously won the title as an assistant at SuperSport, is wary of the hype.
“There’s pressure on every team… the main thing for us is to get maximum points,” he stated, downplaying the “two-horse race” narrative.
With third-place Siwelele fading, the path to glory is clear for Pirates.
The only question remains: can they maintain their focus, or will Sundowns’ relentless pursuit result in another late-season collapse for the Sea Robbers?
