The Federation of Uganda Football Associations will launch a pilot edition of the FUFA Academies League on March 22, 2026, targeting youth academies in the Kampala and Buganda regions.

The competition will involve Grade 2 and Grade 3 academies that meet the federation’s participation requirements. It is designed to strengthen structured youth football development by giving young players consistent and organised match exposure.

Each region will host a separate league featuring 10 academies. The competition will be played over two rounds, with all matches staged at a central venue on each matchday. The federation said the venues will be communicated ahead of every round.

The league will focus on players born in 2011 and 2012. Each academy will be allowed to register a maximum of 25 players for the competition. Participating academies must also complete the mandatory licensing process through the FUFA system before the registration deadline.

Required documentation will include a completed minor consent form signed by a parent or guardian, a copy of the guardian’s National ID, and an authentic National ID or birth certificate for the player to verify age eligibility.

FUFA confirmed that the list of approved academies, assessed by the Experts Panel, was scheduled for publication on March 6. Competition regulations will follow on March 9, with the full fixture list expected on March 10.

Player registration and licensing will open on March 12 and close on March 18. A workshop for coaches and academy managers is planned for March 17, while the official launch of the league will take place during a press conference on March 16.

Academies interested in participating must confirm their entry with FUFA before Tuesday, March 10.

The FUFA Academies League forms part of the federation’s wider strategy to strengthen youth football structures and build a clearer development pathway for young players in Uganda.
