Ugandan distance runner Jacob Kiplimo set a new half marathon world record after winning the EDP Lisbon Half Marathon in 57 minutes and 20 seconds, delivering a commanding performance on the streets of Lisbon.
The Ugandan star controlled the race from the front and crossed the line well ahead of the field, producing one of the fastest performances ever recorded over the distance. The run establishes a new global benchmark and reinforces Kiplimo’s position among the elite names in road running.
The performance also closes a frustrating chapter that followed his remarkable 56:42 run at the Barcelona Half Marathon last year. That time stunned the athletics world but was not ratified as a world record by World Athletics, leaving the Ugandan without official recognition for what many viewed as a historic performance.
Kiplimo returned to the roads determined to settle the matter. His run in Lisbon did exactly that, with the reigning distance running champion producing another dominant display that now secures his place in the record books.
The race also served as a key step in his preparations for the London Marathon, one of the most competitive races on the global road running calendar.
