Eddie Howe has challenged Newcastle to win the “biggest game” in the club’s history as they face Barcelona on Tuesday in the Champions League last 16.
Despite sitting 12th in the Premier League and crashing out of the FA Cup to Manchester City on Saturday, the Magpies have set a club record with six Champions League wins this campaign.
Howe is expected to recall Anthony Gordon, Joelinton, and Dan Burn to the starting lineup after resting them over the weekend.
Newcastle aim for its first-ever Champions League quarterfinal. The club has played 19 games in 63 days, compounded by the September sale of Alexander Isak.
Newcastle has lost all four meetings against the Catalans since their famous 3-2 win in 1997.
“We need to find energy from somewhere to elevate our performance to a level we’ve not seen before,” Howe admitted.
