Kigezi HomeBoyz moved to the top of the 2025 to 26 FUFA Big League table after a 1 to 0 victory over Ntugasaze FC at Kavumba Recreation Stadium on matchday 18.
South Sudan striker Dominic Abonga scored the decisive goal in the second half to secure all three points for Kigezi in a tightly contested match. The result lifts Kigezi HomeBoyz to 32 points from 18 games, two ahead of Blacks Power and three clear of third placed Ntugasaze.
Kigezi coach Sadiq Sempigi said the win was important in their push for promotion.
“We thank God that we have managed to get all the three points we need it has been turf game but the boyz managed well the game as we planned, our target is to get 50 points atleast and get promoted to Uganda premier league.”
Kigezi player Shakidu Mbazira said the team is treating every match as decisive as they chase promotion.
“Our target is to get promotion to Uganda premier league to get to it we have to win in any way that is why we take every game as final.”
The match also saw new signing Henry Kitegenyi, recently recruited from Mbarara City, make his first league appearance for Kigezi after starting in attack.
For Ntugasaze, the defeat came in their first league match at Kavumba Recreation Stadium after the venue switch from Kira Police Arena. The club had previously been hosting matches at Mityana Ssaza Playground earlier in the season.
Ntugasaze defender Francis Agenonga said the team will quickly shift focus to the next fixture.
“we played well but football is football we did not get the three points we wanted but it wont let us down we are going to come back strong against our next opponent young elephant.”
Ntugasaze chief executive Bob Ogwanga said the team is still adjusting to another new home ground but remains confident about their promotion ambitions.
“its only that we have just got to the new pitch for the first time and we missed some of our key players and just in one season we have used more than three pitches as our ground but think soon we will get used to the pitch and I asure fans that we will fullfill our main target of getting promoted to Uganda premier league.”
Assistant coach Dennis Kiyemba, also known as Mulangira, said missed chances proved costly.
“we have not played bad just that the visitors got their moment and used it well for us we got ours we did not use it. But now its done our target remains the same to fight and get promotion to Uganda premier, we are going to correct our mistakes for the next game so that we get three points.”
