Police FC made the decisive breakthrough early in the contest when Lawrence Tezikya scored in the 7th minute. The forward fired a powerful left footed strike that ultimately proved enough to hand the law enforcers all three points.
SC Villa thought they had quickly found a response when Frank Ssebuufu put the ball in the net in the 15th minute. However, the celebrations were cut short after the assistant referee flagged for offside, leaving players and fans visibly stunned.
Police FC later believed they had doubled their advantage in the first half when Bedia Ikamba found the net, but the referee also ruled out that effort.
SC Villa pushed for an equalizer as the match progressed and created several opportunities to level the score. Farouk Matovu came closest when his header struck the woodwork, denying the Jogoos a way back into the game.
Tensions escalated after the final whistle as frustrated SC Villa supporters attempted to confront the referee over the controversial decision that ruled out Ssebuufu’s goal. When they failed to reach the match official, the fans instead exchanged heated words with Police FC officials.
The incident has renewed debate about the standard of officiating in Ugandan football. In recent weeks, several clubs have raised concerns about refereeing decisions affecting their matches, with KCCA FC and Express FC among those that have voiced complaints.
The result lifted Police FC to fifth place on the table with 35 points, while SC Villa remained fourth with 38 points after 19 matches.
