Igor Tudor admits Tottenham Hotspur must prioritize top-flight survival over their Champions League ambitions as the club’s domestic crisis deepens.
Spurs sit just one point above the relegation zone following three straight defeats under Tudor, who replaced Thomas Frank last month. Despite their dire league form, Tottenham travel to Atletico Madrid on Tuesday for a Champions League last-16 first leg.
“Our first aim is the Premier League—this is something that needs to be said publicly,” Tudor stated during Monday’s news conference.
While he insisted the team still wants to progress in Europe, he labeled the competition “something extra” compared to the necessity of avoiding the drop.
Tudor faces a massive tactical battle against Diego Simeone, hoping the “different mentality” of European football can spark a reset for a squad that has conceded nine goals in his first three matches in charge.
