The Chief of Defence Forces, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has donated sports equipment and UGX10 million to support the upcoming Tooro Kingdom Inter-Clans Football Tournament, scheduled to run from April 7 to May 4, 2026.
The contribution was handed over on his behalf by Brig Gen Richard Karemire, the Joint Staff for Formal Education, Sports and Culture in the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces, during a function attended by officials from the Tooro Kingdom.
Karemire presented the donation to Tooro Kingdom’s Minister for Education, Youth and Sports, Hon Eng Kateeba Divine Francis Atwoki, saying the support is meant to help organise the tournament and ensure it runs smoothly.
According to Kainerugaba, the support is part of efforts by the UPDF to back community initiatives that bring people together through sport.
He commended the leadership and people of Tooro Kingdom for what he described as their longstanding association with and support to the National Resistance Army during the liberation struggle and later the UPDF.
He also reaffirmed the force’s commitment to supporting activities that promote national unity, community development, and youth engagement.
Receiving the donation, Kateeba thanked Kainerugaba and the UPDF fraternity for the support, saying the gesture reflects what he described as the force’s people-centred approach.
He added that cooperation between cultural institutions and security forces remains important, noting that cultural and sporting events help preserve traditions while strengthening harmony within communities.
The handover ceremony was also attended by Maj Henry Mwijuka, the UPDF Staff Officer for Sports.
