Uganda’s crews competing in the Safari Rally Kenya have completed reconnaissance, administrative checks and scrutineering on Wednesday, March 11, ahead of the rally action scheduled to run from March 12 to 15 in Naivasha, Kenya.
The day began with the drivers heading out on the stages for reconnaissance, where they studied the terrain and took detailed pace notes to prepare for the demanding gravel routes.
After recce, the teams proceeded to car scrutineering, where officials inspected the vehicles to ensure they meet the technical and safety requirements of the World Rally Championship.
Team captain Duncan Mubiru and fellow Ugandan drivers Oscar Ntambi, Yasin Nasser and Timothy Gawaya successfully completed the procedures and remain in high spirits heading into the rally.
One of the highlights of the day came when groups of school children, some accompanied by their parents, visited the rally area to interact with the international drivers.
The young fans were given a rare opportunity to sit in the drivers’ seats, ask questions and learn more about the sport, with the drivers taking time to share their experiences.
A representative from FIA Media, Sven Good also engaged the youngsters during the session, sharing insights about motorsport and encouraging them to pursue opportunities within the sport.
The interaction offered a glimpse into the importance of diversity and leadership in motorsport while inspiring the next generation of fans and participants.
The Ugandan crews had earlier been officially flagged off in Kampala by Milton Chebet at the headquarters of the National Council of Sports, where government officials urged them to represent the country well at the rally.
The Safari Rally remains one of the most demanding rounds on the championship calendar, and for the Ugandan drivers, the main objective is to complete the event and secure improved positions as the action unfolds in Naivasha.
