Veteran Ugandan coach Mike Hillary Mutebi is recovering in hospital after being found two days following his disappearance, according to his longtime friend and NEC head coach Kaddu Badru Mukasa.
Mutebi was initially taken for treatment after he was discovered in Kisubi earlier this week, but has since been transferred to Mulago National Referral Hospital where doctors are continuing to monitor his condition.
Speaking about the veteran tactician’s health, coach Kaddu said Mutebi had shown significant medical improvement since being admitted.
“Mike, my friend and one of the people that has led to my stature in football. He is okay, he has improved medically. He’s still being attended by the doctors in Mulago. He shifted from Kisubi to Mulago because we wanted more attention on him medically, and the doctors are still nursing him,” Kaddu said.
“But he has improved drastically. He’s also with his dear ones, his mother and other family members who are still looking after him.”
Coach Kaddu Badru also called on the football community to rally around the former KCCA coach, urging players, officials and fans to visit him in hospital to boost his morale during recovery.
“Mike is known, not because of any other profession, but football. Football family please, you can go to visit him and see how he is, it also motivates him,” he said.
Mike Mutebi, one of Uganda’s most decorated coaches, was reported missing after disappearing from a church retreat in Kisubi over the weekend before he was later found and taken for medical attention. Doctors at Mulago are continuing to assess his condition as he recovers.
