UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Chelsea winger Pedro Neto for “unsporting behavior” after he shoved a ball boy during Wednesday’s 5-2 Champions League loss to Paris St-Germain.
The incident occurred in stoppage time at the Parc des Princes when the 26-year-old pushed the youngster off a chair while trying to retrieve the ball, sparking a clash between players.
Neto apologized after the match, citing the “emotion of the game.” He reportedly apologized “about 35 times” and gave the ball boy his shirt.
Chelsea face a massive deficit heading into the second leg at Stamford Bridge next Tuesday.
UEFA’s disciplinary body will decide on a potential suspension in the coming days.
The news adds to a rough 24 hours for the Premier League, following Chelsea’s heavy defeat and the looming threat of playing the return leg without one of their key attackers.
