Defending champions Pyramids FC maintained their unbeaten streak in the CAF Champions League, battling back to earn a 1-1 draw against FAR Rabat in Friday’s quarterfinal first leg.
Played behind closed doors at the Olympic Stadium due to prior crowd trouble, the match saw the Moroccan hosts strike early.
Ahmed Hammoudan found the net in the 8th minute, beating veteran keeper Ahmed El Shenawy with an angled finish.
The Egyptian giants responded seven minutes into the second half. After FAR keeper Ahmed Tagnaouti parried a close-range shot, Mahmoud Zalaka reacted quickest to poke home the equalizer.
Due to Ramadan, the match began at 22:00 local time to allow players to break their fast.
Last season’s top scorer, Mahmoud Mayele, remains goal-less in his last eight matches.
The two sides, who also met in last year’s quarterfinals, will settle the tie in Cairo on March 21.
The winner will advance to face either Renaissance Berkane or Al Hilal in the semifinals.
