American sensation Ja’Kobe Tharp clocked a world-leading 7.36 seconds in the 60m hurdles heats at the NCAA Championships on Friday.
The 20-year-old’s performance marks the fastest time of 2026, surpassing the 7.37 mark previously shared by Trey Cunningham, Dylan Beard, and Jakub Szymanski.
Tharp is now the fourth-fastest performer of all time in the event, tying legends Allen Johnson, Terrence Trammell, and Greg Foster.
He remains just 0.09 seconds off Grant Holloway’s world record of 7.27.
Despite his dominance, the reigning US 110m hurdles champion will not compete in next week’s World Indoor Championships.
Tharp enters Saturday’s final as the heavy favorite to claim the collegiate title.
