Ssebugwawo, playing off handicap 19, returned a nett score of 56 after countback to claim the men’s overall title, while Atuhaire, with handicap 28, posted a nett score of 58 to win the ladies’ category. Both winners walked away with a return ticket from RwandAir, a one night bed and breakfast stay for two at Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa and a gift hamper from Victoria Motors.

In the gross categories, Edgar Muzahura led the men after returning 67 gross playing off handicap three, while Peace Kabasweka topped the ladies’ section with a gross score of 70 off handicap four. Their prizes included a round of golf and a meal for two at Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa plus a Victoria Motors gift hamper.

The season opener was played under the new ‘It’s Up To Me’ format, an individual competition introduced to add a strategic twist to the round, where one player in each group decides the position for the second shot.

Among the highlights of the day was Morris Ongwech’s hole in one at the 16th hole. However, the grand prize of a brand new Mitsubishi Outlander Sport was reserved for the 10th hole, meaning Ongwech narrowly missed out on the car. In recognition of the feat, Victoria Motors rewarded him with a set of tyres.

Group winners were also recognised across the handicap divisions. Brian Katimbo won Group A in the men’s category with a nett score of 65 off handicap 10, earning a weekend bed and breakfast stay for two at Kampala Serena Hotel plus a Victoria Motors gift hamper. William Otieno took Group B with a nett score of 60 playing off handicap 16 and received a lunch or dinner for two at Kampala Serena Hotel and a gift hamper, while Albert Otete won Group C with a nett score of 56 off handicap 43.

In the ladies’ section, Rita Apell topped Group A with a nett score of 62 off handicap 18 to secure a weekend stay for two at Kampala Serena Hotel and a Victoria Motors gift hamper. Phionah Namanya won Group B with a nett score of 59 playing off handicap 36 and received a lunch or dinner for two at the hotel alongside a gift hamper.

The side bet contests also produced several winners. Jude Ochieng and Sarah Nduhukire claimed the men’s and ladies’ longest drive awards respectively, while Philip Kazibwe and Peris Venessa won the nearest to the pin contests. Daniel Muwooya walked away with the Piga Mingi prize. All side bet winners received umbrellas from RwandAir.

Away from the course, the I&M Bank Katogo Quiz added another layer of competition. Charles Mubiru emerged with the highest points overall after scoring 95. He also featured among the individual quiz winners alongside Arthur Arinaitwe, Phionah Namanya, Marvin Kagoro and Marianne Nkore.

Quiz winners received bottles of Johnnie Walker and umbrellas from I&M Bank, capping off a lively start to the 2026 Katogo Golf Series season.
