Kitara have thanked supporters and stakeholders after a packed crowd witnessed their 4-0 victory over Buhimba United Saints in the Bunyoro derby at Hoima City Stadium on Friday.
In an appreciation message issued on March 15, the club said the large turnout reflected the strong backing Kitara enjoys across the country during what was the first Uganda Premier League match played at the newly opened stadium.
The club also acknowledged the leadership behind the construction of the facility in Hoima, thanking President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports Janet Museveni for their role in supporting the establishment of an international standard stadium in the region.
Kitara further extended appreciation to State Minister for Sports Peter Ogwang, the National Council of Sports, the Federation of Uganda Football Associations leadership, security agencies, the Uganda Premier League secretariat and sponsors including StarTimes.
Main sponsors Kinyara Sugar Limited, the media, local leaders, and supporters were also recognised for their contribution to the success of the match day event.
The club addressed an incident during the game where some individuals climbed the stadium fence, noting that stewards and security personnel quickly managed the situation to ensure the match remained peaceful and entertaining.
Kitara said they will work on improving ticketing and gate access for future fixtures at the venue following the high attendance recorded at the derby.
Attention now turns to cup action, with Kitara set to host Bunyaruguru United in the Round of 16 of the Stanbic Uganda Cup on Wednesday at Royals Park in Butema.
