Daniil Medvedev snapped world number one Carlos Alcaraz’s 16-match winning streak with a 6-3 7-6 (7-3) victory to reach the Indian Wells final.
Alcaraz, who won the Australian Open earlier this year, admitted he had “never seen Daniil play like this” after the Russian dominated the opening set in just 35 minutes.
Medvedev, seeking his third title of 2026, now faces world number two Jannik Sinner. The Italian cruised past Alexander Zverev 6-2 6-4 to reach his first final of the season.
Sinner is aiming to become only the third man in history, alongside Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, to complete the “sweep” of all six ATP Masters 1000 hard-court titles.
“It’s an amazing feeling to beat someone like Carlos,” Medvedev said. “But against Jannik, I’ll need to be just as sharp.”
