Fourth division side Kagaba Happy Boys have become the first team to reach the quarterfinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup after defeating Six O’clock 5:4 on penalties following a goalless draw in their round of 16 clash.
The Kasanda based team held their opponents throughout the 90 minutes before prevailing in the shootout. Goalkeeper Sali Suliman proved decisive, saving a penalty to send Kagaba Happy Boys into the last eight and extend their impressive cup run.
Kayemba Henry, Jumba Allan, Kamoga Pius, Kezaara Stuart, and Tonny Sseruyange all converted their penalties to secure the victory for the Buganda Province fourth division side.
Kagaba Happy Boys have enjoyed a remarkable journey in this year’s tournament, having already eliminated Young Elephants and Kigezi HomeBoyz before overcoming Six O’clock to book their place in the quarterfinals.
Head coach Gitta admitted the team had already surpassed their original target in the competition.
“Our main target was to just make to round of 32 but after eliminating Young Elephants, kigezi Homeboyz and now six O’clock we in bonus and we are ready for each team that we will play against.”
With Kagaba Happy Boys already through, attention now shifts to the remaining round of 16 fixtures scheduled this week.
On Tuesday, NEC face Lugazi at MTN Omondi Stadium before KCCA take on Onduparaka at the same venue later in the evening.
Wednesday’s action sees Kitara host Bunyaruguru United at Royals Park in Butema, while Vipers welcome Iganga United to St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.
SC Villa meet Maroons at FUFA Kadiba Stadium on Thursday night, before URA face Tapoh and Express take on Red Devo at Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo on Friday.
Kagaba Happy Boys will now wait to discover their quarterfinal opponents as the fourth tier side continue their surprise run in the competition.
