Ugandan crew Timothy Gawaya and co driver Francis Wamala secured victory in the two wheel drive category at the Safari Rally Kenya after completing the demanding event in Naivasha.
The pair delivered a steady performance across the tough gravel stages to claim the 2WD class win at one of the most challenging rallies on the international calendar.
The Safari Rally is widely known for its rough terrain, deep sand, dust and unpredictable weather, conditions that often test both driver skill and mechanical reliability.
Gawaya and Wamala’s result adds another strong achievement for Uganda at the event, with local crews continuing to compete alongside regional and international teams in the rally that doubles as a round of the World Rally Championship and the African Rally Championship.
Finishing the rally is often considered a major success given the punishing nature of the stages around Naivasha, making the category victory a notable milestone for the Ugandan crew.
The result also provides momentum for the pair as attention shifts to upcoming regional events, including the Pearl of Africa Rally later this year.
