The Nansana Ghetto Day Boxing Championship Gala will take place at Royal Gardens in Nansana on 15 May 2026, following its official launch on Tuesday, 17 March. The event seeks to raise awareness about the challenges faced by residents of ghetto communities in the area.
At the launch, Coach Kawaga Bamweyana, representing local boxing coaches, announced that the gala will feature a series of boxing bouts aimed at identifying and nurturing young talent, while also spotlighting pressing social issues affecting ghetto communities.
Ghetto areas in Uganda, particularly around fast-growing urban centers like Nansana, are often marked by high population density, limited access to basic services, and widespread unemployment.
Many young people in these communities struggle with issues such as drug and substance abuse, often driven by poverty and lack of opportunity.
Despite these challenges, ghetto communities remain a rich source of raw talent. Many boys and girls have shown promise in sports like boxing, using it as a pathway to discipline, income, and a brighter future.
The championship is expected to showcase emerging boxing talent while inspiring positive change among Nansana’s youth.
More than 40 boxers are set to compete, making the gala both a platform for talent development and a rallying point for raising awareness about the realities of ghetto life.
