Uganda levelled their T20 series against Namibia A with a seven-wicket win in Windhoek on March 19, producing a composed all-round performance to respond to their opening defeat.
Chasing 138 at the High Performance Oval, the Cricket Cranes reached 143 for 3 in 18 overs, with captain Riazat Ali Shah anchoring the innings with an unbeaten 46. Gerald Olipa added 39, while Simon Ssesazi chipped in with 20 as Uganda’s top order set the platform with improved strike rotation and fewer dot balls.
Earlier, Uganda’s bowlers laid the foundation after electing to field. Kenneth Waiswa (2/22) struck early, including a run-out and two key wickets to leave Namibia A at 47 for 3.
Henry Ssenyondo then turned the game with 3 for 21, removing both set batters Dylan Leicher and Zane Green after their 44-run stand had revived the hosts. Namibia A were restricted to 137 for 7, a total Uganda chased down with 12 balls remaining.
The win levels the five-match white-ball series at 1-1 and marks head coach Steve Tikolo’s first victory since returning for a third stint.
“We learnt a lot from our shortcomings yesterday. The bowlers didn’t sting and the batters had too many dot balls,” Tikolo said.
“We took care of the processes today. The bowlers were incisive, and the batters, especially the top order, set it up well. The captain was there at the end to seal it.”
Uganda face Namibia A again in the third T20 on March 21 in Windhoek as they look to take the lead in the series.
