The Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) has postponed all fixtures that had been scheduled for today, Friday, March 20, in observance of Eid al-Fitr, one of the most significant dates on the Islamic calendar.
The decision, confirmed to NBS Sport by FUBA Vice President and General Secretary Hudson Ssegamwenge, was taken to allow Muslim members of the basketball fraternity, including players, coaches, officials, administrators, and fans, to fully participate in the celebrations marking the end of Ramadan.
Ssegamwenge emphasized that the move reflects the federation’s commitment to inclusivity and respect for religious observances.
He noted that the league has long maintained a similar stance during the Christian holiday of Easter, when competitions pause to allow believers to celebrate.
This year, Easter Sunday falls on April 5, shortly after the conclusion of the first round of fixtures on Good Friday, April 3, meaning there will also be no games during that period.
Friday’s postponed lineup had promised thrilling encounters at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.
In the women’s division, record champions UCU Lady Canons, who boast record eight titles and remain unbeaten this season, were set to clash with reigning champions JKL Lady Dolphins, while in the men’s category, ten-time champions City Oilers were set to lock horns with UCU Canons.
FUBA has yet to announce new dates for the rescheduled fixtures.
League action, however, will resume tomorrow, Saturday, March 21, with five games lined up at ABJA Park.
The competition will then continue on Sunday at Lugogo with another five fixtures, including two that will be live on NBS Sport, with UMU Flames facing Kampala Rockets at 2 pm, before JKL Dolphins taking on City Oilers at 4 pm.
