The round of 16 in the Stanbic Uganda Cup has concluded, with seven top-flight sides and one lower-tier club advancing to the quarter-finals.
Clubs from the Uganda Premier League dominated proceedings, accounting for the bulk of teams in the last eight. The only exception is Happy Boys FC Kagaba, who continue their impressive run as the sole representatives from outside the top tier.
Defending champions Vipers SC remain firmly in contention after a commanding 4-0 victory over Iganga United in the round of 16. The Kitende-based side is chasing back-to-back titles, having beaten KCCA FC in last season’s final.
There were several emphatic results across the round, with Kitara FC thrashing Bunyaruguru United 6-0, while KCCA FC eased past Onduparaka with a 5-0 win. Express FC also progressed comfortably after a 4-0 victory over Red Devo.
Elsewhere, NEC FC, SC Villa and URA FC all booked their places in the quarter-finals.
Attention now turns to the quarter-final draw, where Happy Boys will be hoping to extend their fairytale run against more top-flight opposition, while the Premier League sides continue their push for silverware.
