The Kira Road Police Playground is set for a major transformation after His Excellency Ahmed Mohammad Abdulrahman Al-Zweidi, the Ambassador of Qatar, pledged to partner with the Government of Qatar to upgrade the facility into a modern stadium that meets international standards.
The announcement came during Eid celebrations, where Dr. Rashid Yahya Ssemuddu confirmed the ambassador’s keen interest in supporting the project.
The pledge was made in the backdrop of a friendly football match between the Sheikhs Team and the Police Corporate Football Team.
Uganda Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma welcomed the development, noting that the new stadium would significantly boost sports activities and morale within the police force.
Deputy Inspector General of Police James Ochaya emphasized the broader impact of such initiatives, highlighting their role in strengthening trust and cooperation between law enforcement and the public.
“This tournament is very important to us as police officers because it helps us unite with community members for the good of our country. It allows civilians to feel more comfortable around us, rather than viewing us as bad people,” Ochaya said.
The friendly match, organized as part of Eid festivities, aimed to foster stronger ties between the police and the community, particularly in collaborative efforts to address crime.
On the pitch, the Police Corporate Football Team claimed a 2-1 victory over the Sheikhs Team, capping the celebrations with a spirited finish.
