Black Pirates Lone Ugandan Survivors After Dramatic Enterprise Cup Quarter-finals

Stanbic Black Pirates are the only Ugandan side through to the Enterprise Cup semi-finals after edging KCB Rugby 11–10 in a tight quarter-final at Wankulukuku.

William Nkore’s penalties gave Pirates a 6–0 lead at halftime before KCB responded through Sheldon Kahi. Pirates regained control with a decisive try to move 11–5 ahead, and although Mike Wekesa crossed late for KCB, the missed conversion proved costly as the Kenyan side fell short by a point.

The result stands as the upset of the round, with Pirates eliminating a KCB side still chasing its first Enterprise Cup title since 2017 and ensuring Uganda remains represented in the last four.

Elsewhere, it was a difficult outing for the other Ugandan clubs. Platinum Credit Heathens were beaten 61–19 by Kabras Sugar in Kampala, with the visitors dominating from the outset.

Griffin Chao scored twice in a one-sided display that also saw tries from Nyambua, Cantona, Kubu, Sifuna, Okoth, Ashiundu and Osimbo. Heathens’ points came through Malcolm Okello’s penalties and a late try, but they were outmatched throughout.

KCB KOBs also exited the competition after a 29–13 loss to Nondescripts at Nakuru Showground. KOBs took an early lead through Rasul Abiriga’s penalty, but Nondescripts responded with tries from James Kubasu, captain Steve Odhiambo, Victor Rogena and Charles Omondi. Kelvin Sheunda controlled the game with his kicking, adding conversions, penalties and an assist.

Toyota Buffaloes suffered the heaviest defeat among the Ugandan sides, falling 60–15 to Menengai Oilers in Nakuru. Oilers ran in multiple tries, including braces for Khavoli, Achacha and Okeyo, while Buffaloes relied largely on penalties and managed a single converted try.

The semi-final line-up is now set, with Pirates the lone Ugandan team alongside Kabras Sugar, Nondescripts and Menengai Oilers.

Pirates will host Nondescripts in one of the semi-finals, while Kabras face Oilers in an all-Kenyan clash.
