Acholi and Busoga battled to a 1-1 draw in an entertaining FUFA Drum quarterfinal first leg played on Saturday, March 21, at Booma Grounds.
The tightly contested clash saw both sides create chances, but it was Busoga who struck first in the second half through Dickson Matama. The visitors capitalized on a moment of hesitation from the hosts to silence the home crowd.
Acholi responded with resilience, pressing forward in search of an equalizer. Their persistence paid off when Brian James Obedi found the net to restore parity and keep the tie finely balanced.
Earlier, Acholi had dominated large spells of the first half, with Obedi and his teammates carving out several opportunities. Despite their attacking intent, Busoga’s disciplined defending ensured the game remained goalless at the break.
The result leaves everything to play for in the decisive return leg, scheduled for March 28 at Saza Ground. The winner on aggregate will advance to the semifinals of the culturally significant tournament.
In another quarterfinal fixture on Saturday, Bunyoro Province and reigning champions West Nile played out a goalless draw at Royals Park.
Quarterfinal action continues on Sunday, with Teso hosting Lango, while record winners Buganda face Tooro in the remaining ties.
