The FA confirmed that this year’s Community Shield will be staged at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on 16 August, after Wembley was booked for concerts by Canadian star The Weeknd.
It will be the Shield’s first return to Wales since 2006, with the 74,000‑capacity venue previously hosting the fixture six times during Wembley’s redevelopment.
Welsh Rugby Union COO Gavin Marshall called the move “a tremendously proud moment,” while fan reaction has been mixed—some praising Cardiff as a top venue, others raising concerns over travel costs.
The Premier League season begins the following weekend on 22 August.
