Uganda Aquatics has approved a Shs1.6 billion budget for the 2026/2027 financial year, marking a decisive step toward strengthening aquatic sports development in the country.
The landmark decision was reached during the federation’s General Assembly held Saturday at Copper Chimney in Lugogo — the first since the body rebranded from the Uganda Swimming Federation to Uganda Aquatics.
Federation president Moses Mwase hailed the gathering as a milestone, noting that the rebrand reflects a broader vision to modernize and expand aquatic sports in Uganda.
“The federation is going to turn attention to major international competitions, particularly the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Uganda Aquatics is also preparing to host the Zone III Championships, a move aimed at boosting the country’s profile in regional competitions,” Mwase said.
In a major development initiative, the assembly approved plans to construct a high-standard swimming pool at Seroma Christian High School, which has offered five acres of land to the federation. Mwase praised the contribution as vital for nurturing talent and growing the sport nationwide.
The event drew key figures from Uganda’s sports fraternity, including officials from the National Council of Sports and the Uganda Olympic Committee, led by chairman Donald Rukare. Rukare urged the federation to streamline swimmer organization to ensure strong performances both locally and internationally.
The assembly also recognized outstanding contributions within the sport. Athletes, coaches, and sponsors were honored for their efforts over the past year, with Gators Swimming Club receiving special applause for emerging as winners of the national league.
