The Executive Director of the Uganda Communications Commission, George William Nyombi Thembo, has encouraged young Ugandans to take up sports as a pathway to healthier lifestyles and longer lives.
Speaking at the 116th edition of the Chairman’s Cup hosted at Kampala Club, Nyombi Thembo emphasized the transformative role of sports in his own life.
“I have been part of this club for many years, and sports have played a key role in keeping me active and healthy,” he remarked, underscoring the personal benefits of consistent physical activity.
The tournament, which attracted over 300 participants across multiple disciplines, showcased the growing enthusiasm for recreational and competitive sports in Kampala.
Kampala Club Chairman David Kamukama revealed ambitious plans to modernize the club’s facilities and integrate digital systems to appeal to younger members. “We are committed to improving our sports infrastructure ahead of the 2027 tournament and digitalizing our activities to attract more young people,” Kamukama said.
The week-long event concluded with a lively social evening featuring music, dance, and entertainment, highlighting the broader social and cultural value of sports beyond physical fitness.
By linking health, recreation, and community, the Chairman’s Cup reinforced the message that sports are not only about competition but also about building healthier, more connected lives.
