Former NEC goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan has officially hung up his gloves and stepped into a new chapter of his football career, joining SC Villa’s youth system as a goalkeeping coach.
Ochan will work with the club’s youth and reserve teams, guiding the next generation of shot-stoppers as he transitions from the pitch to the technical bench.
His appointment comes on the heels of SC Villa’s decision to bring in Nebojsa Kapoor as head of youth and reserve teams, underscoring the record Uganda Premier League champions’ renewed commitment to nurturing young talent.
The move is something of a homecoming for Ochan, who previously featured for SC Villa during the 2011/12 season under coach Mike Mutebi.
Beyond his playing career, he has remained deeply involved in football development, currently serving on the organising committee for the pilot Academies League in the Buganda and Kampala regions.
Over the years, Ochan built an impressive résumé with stints at clubs across Africa, including Bloemfontein Celtic (South Africa), Kabwe Warriors (Zambia), AFC Leopards (Kenya), NEC FC, and three separate spells at KCCA FC.
His time at KCCA was particularly successful, yielding two Uganda Premier League titles (2015/16, 2016/17) and the Uganda Cup (2016/17). He also lifted the CECAFA Nile Basin Cup in 2014 with Sports Club Victoria University.
On the international stage, Ochan earned 17 caps with the Uganda Cranes, representing the nation at two CHAN tournaments, in South Africa (2014) and Morocco (2018).
His wealth of experience, both domestically and abroad, is expected to provide invaluable mentorship to SC Villa’s youth goalkeepers, as the club looks to build a strong foundation for future success.
