Senegal have taken their fight to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) after being stripped of the Africa Cup of Nations crown and replaced by Morocco.
CAF ruled on March 17 that Senegal forfeited the January 18 final, citing a breach of regulations when players walked off in protest at a penalty. The decision overturned Senegal’s 1-0 extra-time win into a 3-0 defeat, handing hosts Morocco the trophy.
Senegal’s appeal seeks to reinstate their victory. CAS Director General Matthieu Reeb said the tribunal will move swiftly while ensuring fairness: “We understand that teams and fans are eager to know the final decision.”
The case has divided opinion across Africa, with Senegalese fans calling the ruling a “disgrace” and Moroccan supporters celebrating what they see as justice.
