Manchester City’s midfield anchor, Rodri, has officially fueled speculation regarding a return to Spain, admitting he is open to joining Real Madrid as he enters the final year of his contract.
The 29-year-old Ballon d’Or winner, currently recovering his top form after a 2024 ACL injury, told Onda Cero that the allure of his hometown is strong.
“Would I like to play in Spain again, in Madrid? I’d like to return, yes, obviously,” Rodri said. “I have a year left on my contract; there will come a point when we’ll have to sit down and talk.”
Despite his history with Atletico Madrid, Rodri noted that “you can’t turn down the best clubs in the world,” citing players like Thibaut Courtois who have made the cross-city switch.
He dismissed rumors of a rivalry with Vinicius Jr. following the 2024 Ballon d’Or ceremony, stating he has “great respect” for the Brazilian.
With only 12 months remaining on his deal, Manchester City faces a massive decision: extend their midfield talisman or risk losing him to the Spanish giants.
After winning four Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy in England, the Madrid native appears ready for a homecoming that would shift the power balance of European football.
