Senegal defiantly paraded the Africa Cup of Nations trophy at the Stade de France before beating Peru 2-0 in a friendly, despite CAF stripping them of their January final win over Morocco.
Captain Kalidou Koulibaly and goalkeeper Edouard Mendy carried the trophy to federation president Abdoulaye Fall, as fans celebrated with music and a procession led by Saint-Denis mayor Bally Bagayoko.
Senegal’s shirts bore two stars — one for their 2021 triumph, another for the disputed Rabat victory. Resting key players, they still outclassed Peru with goals from Nicolas Jackson and Ismaila Sarr.
The FSF has appealed CAF’s decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, while coach Aliou Cissé insists: “Everyone knows we are African champions.”
