Kampala University became the first team to book a place in the semifinals after holding Bugema University to a goalless draw in the return leg. The result, combined with their 1–1 advantage from the first leg, was enough to secure progression.
Head coach Vicente Tumusiime praised his side’s collective effort, highlighting the impact of former KU player Nicolas Kabonge—now at URA FC—who joined the technical bench.
“We have worked together as a team, and Kabonge’s presence has motivated our young players. Our target is to win a third trophy, but above all, we want to remain true to our style of play,” Tumusiime said.
Bugema’s head coach Meddy Nyanzi expressed pride in his rebuilding squad despite the exit.
“We are building a new team. We played our way, but luck was not on our side. We created chances but failed to utilize them,” he reflected.
Kampala University will now await the semifinal draw, scheduled for Friday at Katikati Restaurant, to learn their next opponent.
Meanwhile, action continues tomorrow with the Masaka Road Derby return leg, as Muteesa I Royal University hosts defending champions Uganda Martyrs University. The champions carry a 2–1 advantage from the first leg.
