Ghana have parted ways with head coach Otto Addo just over two months before the World Cup, following a string of poor results that culminated in a 2-1 defeat to Germany in Stuttgart on Monday.
The Black Stars conceded a stoppage-time goal from Deniz Undav, marking their fourth consecutive loss under Addo. Only days earlier, they suffered a heavy 5-1 defeat to Austria, intensifying pressure on the 50-year-old coach.
“The association wishes to thank Otto Addo sincerely for his contribution to the team and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavours,” the Ghana Football Association (GFA) said in a statement. The GFA added it would announce “the new technical direction of the Black Stars in due course.”
Addo, who took charge in March 2024, departs at a critical juncture with Ghana drawn in a challenging World Cup group alongside England, Croatia, and Panama. His dismissal leaves the team scrambling for stability as preparations for the North American tournament enter their final stretch.
The decision underscores Ghana’s urgency to revive form and confidence before the global stage, where the Black Stars will seek to recapture the spirit of their memorable 2010 run to the quarterfinals.
