Former Commonwealth Games champion Moses Kipsiro has sounded the alarm over what he calls “disorganization” within the Sebei sub-region, after the area failed to secure representation on the newly elected executive committee of Uganda Athletics.
Speaking on election day, Kipsiro expressed disappointment that Sebei, widely regarded as Uganda’s powerhouse of elite runners, now finds itself without a voice at the federation’s top table.
“We the people from the Sebei sub-region have missed out on the main executive committee board of Uganda Athletics because of our disorganization among ourselves,” Kipsiro said.
He stressed that the region’s unmatched contribution to Uganda’s global athletics success makes its exclusion particularly troubling.
“We are the leading region in the country when it comes to athletics, producing the best athletes representing Uganda on the global stage, but we now have no voice on the executive committee,” he added.
Kipsiro warned that continued division among Sebei leaders could erode athlete development and performance, undermining the region’s dominance in the sport.
Uganda Athletics Federation President Dominic Otucet defended the election process, pointing out that 80 delegates from across the country voted to replace former Vice President Technical Benjamin Njia with Dr. Michael Byaruhanga.
