Golf legend Tiger Woods, 50, has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor DUI charges following a rollover crash last Friday.
Alongside the legal plea, Woods announced he is taking an indefinite hiatus from golf to enter treatment.
“I am stepping away for a period of time to focus on my health,” Woods said in a statement Tuesday. “This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.”
Woods clipped a trailer and rolled his Land Rover in Jupiter Island. He told police he was distracted by his phone and the radio.
While he blew a 0.00 on a breathalyzer, police noted he was “sweating profusely,” lethargic, and failed field sobriety tests.
Officers found two hydrocodone pills in his pocket; Woods admitted to taking “a few” prescription medications that morning.
His attorney has demanded a jury trial. Woods waived his April 23 arraignment.
The PGA Tour has offered its full support, stating that Woods’ health is the “priority” as he begins his recovery process.
