UEFA is lobbying FIFA to boost World Cup prize funds after European teams warned participation costs could outweigh earnings.
The 2026 tournament, expected to generate more than $11 billion, currently offers each team $1.5 million in preparation costs plus allowances for travel and lodging. Associations argue this is insufficient, with some fearing losses.
FIFA has pledged to reinvest proceeds into global football, but federations remain unclear on their share. The issue will be debated at the FIFA Congress in Vancouver in May.
The expanded 48-team World Cup kicks off June 11 in Mexico City, with the final set for July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
